Summer Semester 2021/2022 in Lomza: READY, STEADY, GO!
When March first started, our University got brighter and more talkative, as students started the next semester of their studies. Among those smiling faces, there were 28 foreign students, who joined Lomza State University of Applied Sciences after having been accepted to study here within the framework of Erasmus+ Programme.
The start of the semester was the perfect time to take a look at the University's intrafructure, visit the Food Technology Hall and the Automation and Robotics laboratories, and to get familiar with the buidlings the Students will be studying in every day for the next couple of months. In addition, Students took part in the polish Crash Course organized by our own MA Barbara Adamiak, who is a lecturer teaching English, and - sometimes - Polish, too! The Students learnt all the important information they may need in the upcoming days, and many of them are interested in continuing the classes on their own. The Orientation Days organized by the International Relations Department for the Erasmus Students turned out to be a great hit amongs the students! Everybody was excited about the prospect of joining in the practical classes and learning from the experts.
On March 10th, Erasmus Students took part in the Integration Evening together with Polish Students. It is an event organized every semester to welcome the foreign Students into the University, and it allows them to get to know one another, as they are mostly coming from different universities and countries. Specifically with this goal in mind, the students were previously asked to prepare short presentations about themselves, their home universities, cities, and countries so that everybody could learn more about other cultures. It was a fascinating journey through many, many countries! This semester, Lomza State University of Applied Sciences is hosting students from Turkey, Italy, Ukraine, The Republic of Kyrgyzstan, Syria, Cape Verde, Yemen, Spain, Lithuania, and Romania.
After the Integration Evening full of insipring talks, meeting the departmental coordinators, and planning the next month, the students officially began their semester courses, and they are attending the classes they had chosen prior to arriving in Lomza. It will be a great opportunity to learn about Poland, Lomza, and our University, and all of the incoming Students are very excited about that!
Welcome to Lomza! We hope you will greatly enjoy the journed you have embarked on!
Visualization of 20 Akademicka St. - New Building, New Plans
Last Academic Year, together with The Association of Polish Architects (SARP), Lomza State University of Applied Sciences has announced and concluded a competition for the expansion of our newly acquired building of 20 Akademicka Street.
Since the buildings of 1 Akademicka Street (Faculty of Computer Science and Technology) form a coherent, modern architectural complex, noticeably different from the architecture of Łomża. In order to standardize the style of all buildings and improve the conditions of study and work at the university, we decided to expand the headquarters and connect it with the building at 20 Akademicka Street, which we received from the board of the Podlaskie Voivodeship, for which I would like to thank you and I will thank you more than once - said The Rector, Prof. Dariusz Surowik.
The contest was concluded in October 2021, commencing the beginning of the Academic Year 2021/2022.
Each of the projects was an interesting idea for modern functional solutions. However, the winning project, by architect Bogusław Kidziak, heralded a building that would fit in with a 21st century University - a standard long acquired by Lomza State University of Applied Sciences.
Erasmus+ Programme Is Active in 2020/2021 Academic Year
Due to the pandemic, the world has slowed down again this fall, but the Erasmus+ Programme did not stop in March, and is not stopping now, either. Following the procedures and restrictions, the Academic Year of 2020/2021 started with a group of international students from: Spain, Turkey, Portugal, Georgia, and Belarus.
Eight students from six different universities were accepted to study at Lomza State University of Applied Sciences during the winter semester, which is a bit out of ordinary for everybody as our institution decided to implement a hybrid model of studies. Some of the students who joined us this semester applied for a mobility in the previous academic year, but we are glad to be able to host them this fall.
Students enrolled in five different departments on all three faculties, and are attending both virtual and in-person courses in English.
We truly believe that our students will be healthy and safe this ongoing semester. We are happy to have started the winter semester with international students and we wish you all the best on this journey!
Children's Academy with Erasmus+
On Thursday, 21st of November, the International Relations Department organized an event called Akademia Przedszkolaka (trans. Children’s Academy) with help from students from the Erasmus+ Programme about people from different parts of the World.
The subject of the meeting was the diversity of people on Earth. Since there are students and employees from 7 different countries staying at our University, it was possible to introduce each of them separately.
After singing the original anthem of the Children’s Academy, the staff explained the origins of people from different parts of the World. After the initial explanation, Spanish students introduced themselves and began teaching kids how to dance the ever popular “Macarena,” while students from Portugal showed some football tricks, which both boys and girls joined on stage. There was some time to showcase Italy with its love for pizza and pasta, and afterwards everyone could play the Turkish game of cüce- deve (trans. Down-up) which is a popular recreation form for schoolchildren in Turkey. Yet another game was introduced by Milton Correa, a student from Portugal who originally comes from the Republic of The Gambia. The game was more of a race with an egg and a spoon, and children who were willing to participate had to be very careful during the transportation process. At last, no eggs were broken! Children also had a chance to learn a few words in Arabic thanks to Abdelhamid Mahamat, a student of Karabuk University in Turkey, who originates from Chad, a country in north-central Africa. Abdelhamid conducted his whole lesson in Polish, explaining how to pronounce phrases such as “how are you?” and “I’m good, and you?” in Arabic. At the end, after saying a few words about the United States, children could dance the English song “If you’re happy and you know it” with a Fulbright scholar Andrea Baumgartel, who is an Engllish teaching assistant at our University this academic year.
The purpose of the event was to show kindergarten students that – despite all differences related to our origin and language – we are all the same. As always, after the meeting, photographs were taken in a spirit of interaction between different groups of people. Thank you for joining us on this journey and see you next time! Goodbye!
